What Does My Money Support?

General Support

Although adoption fees provide some revenue, MEOW relies on generous individual and business donors to fund the majority of our general expenses. These expenses include food, litter, vaccines, general veterinary care, spay/neuter surgeries, and microchipping as well as the business expenses (salaries, rent, office supplies, etc.) that are part of providing care. Undesignated donations are critical to our ability to provide a soft place to land for the animals.

Based on our most recent 990 filing (2021), our program expenses comprise 95% of our operational expenses, which means that $.95 of each $1.00 donated goes to support the care of the animals.

Program Support & Special Funds

Donations given directly to our special funds provide financial support to MEOW’s specific critical programs.

Mercy Fund & Lil Joey’s Fund – provide funding for emergency, life saving, or significant veterinary care for cats and dogs that otherwise may have few options.

Ninth Life Program Fund – provides support for the cats in our ninth life program, a program which puts cats with little chance of being adopted due to significant or chronic health conditions, into loving foster homes and provides them with a home environment for as long as they have with us.

Public Spay/Neuter Voucher Program Fund – Since 2010 MEOW has offered no cost spay/neuter vouchers to pet owners who need some help to get their cats or dogs altered. We are sometimes able to get grants to cover the costs of the surgeries, but when grant funds aren’t available, MEOW covers the expenses. We believe spaying and neutering pets is the only way to end pet homelessness and are proud of this program.
